Your point on IF being good for the will and mind is incisive. I am currently writing a sequel to this essay centered on the history of eating habits, and St Thomas Aquinas made a very similar point. He went as far as saying gluttony was a sin because of its deleterious effects on the will and the mind. And I believe this was the Catholic Church's position in the medieval period.
